Word for the Year 2025

My Words for the past Years

2023 - Limitless

2020 - Roaring Twenties

2019 - Adventures

2018 - Control

2017 - Balance

2016- Health

2015- Opportunity

2014- Organisation

2013- Peace

2011- Frugal

2010- Clutter

This year I have decided why wait until the New Year to get started on a new word for the new year.  I always plan my quilty year between Christmas and New Year.  But not this time.  Whilst I am having a massive clear out due to some house renovations, I am reviewing my huge pile of UFOs. And I mean huge!  I am well into double figures, could even be close to three figures.  I am going to re-home some projects that I am no longer wanting, enjoying or are not my style and taste.

If I get organise with my time I could complete some projects and give them away as Christmas gifts. So to all my family and friends, watch this space.  If you see something you like to own, claim it. I might even just give you a small surprise package.

So my word for 2025 is UFOs.  Should I keep a record of my finished and rehoused UFOs? I could even have a new UFO page.

Let's get started.....

Easy Mitred Binding

Another quick easy tutorial for binding.  Each time I vlog I learn something new. Still be kind with your comments.

This tutorial is slightly shorter than the last binding vlog as I did not repeat some of the steps.

I quilted this wall hanging but unpick it as I did not like it. That was many years ago!

During 'lock down', I thought it just needed a simpler style of quilting and to be finished.

After quilting it, just sat in my UFO box. I have decided that this winter I am going to tried and complete as many UFO's as possible.

So let's get started....

Clocks Changed to GMT this weekend

The clocks changed this weekend to GMT. We gain an extra hour as the clocks move back an hour.

The days get shorter and the nights longer until Winter Solstice in December.  I do not like this time of year. I hate the nights drawing in as well as having to close the curtains and switch on the lights in the late afternoons. I seem to hibernate until Winter Solstice. To keep me for hibernation and procrastinating, I plan to finish as any UFOs as possible.

Between Christmas and New Year every year I make a list of all the UFOs I plan to finish the following year. It is safe to say I am never successful. But I keep planning every year. So before the New Year starts, why not plan in October to get started early and hopefully I will success this time.

Should I keep a record here? I think I will as it will keep me motivate and focus to get things done.

See you again soon.....

Beginner's Easy Quick Binding

I have taught many, mainly ladies, over the years to sew, patchwork and quilting. I am not very tech minded but I attempted to make a vlog about easy quick binding whilst finishing a quilt.

So here it is. Please be kind. I now that I repeat some step twice and I did that purposely. I know that many need to see a technique or demo more than once.

I also learnt a lot about editing my own vlogs and what format to use in the future. So hopefully my future vlogs will improve.

The Salt Pans of Kervillen Morbihan in Brittany France have over the last few years have been restored and production of salt has resumed.

If you are in the area of Carnac or La Trinite sur Mer, it is really worth a visit as the wild life is stunning.

Spring is here at last!

Spring is here at last. It seems to me to have been a long winter.  Not sure if it is due to the continuous wet weather or the state of the UK.  Life here appears to be a struggle at some times.  This nation seems to be all doom and gloom. It is because the people of this wonderful country had known for months, possible over a year, that we are now in a recession due to the high inflation.

I want to cheer myself and you all up with some photos of the single sunflower I grew last summer.  It was given to me by a family member.  It was in a sorry state.  But it blossomed into a beautiful ray of sunshine.

Now the sun has sprung into life and spring has officially begun, let's all have hope that the rest of the year is going to be calm and wonderful.

Table Topper

I made this table runner for my mother many years ago using fabric I have purchased in Cyprus.

It is a simple and easy design. Very quick to make. I have made many table runners using this method. I think I will make another but this time photographing as I go so I can write up instructions.

This table topper is still being used today on my mother's coffee table. It is always a pleasure to see the items I make for family still be treasured and used as intended.
