Word for the Year 2025

My Words for the past Years

2023 - Limitless

2020 - Roaring Twenties

2019 - Adventures

2018 - Control

2017 - Balance

2016- Health

2015- Opportunity

2014- Organisation

2013- Peace

2011- Frugal

2010- Clutter

This year I have decided why wait until the New Year to get started on a new word for the new year.  I always plan my quilty year between Christmas and New Year.  But not this time.  Whilst I am having a massive clear out due to some house renovations, I am reviewing my huge pile of UFOs. And I mean huge!  I am well into double figures, could even be close to three figures.  I am going to re-home some projects that I am no longer wanting, enjoying or are not my style and taste.

If I get organise with my time I could complete some projects and give them away as Christmas gifts. So to all my family and friends, watch this space.  If you see something you like to own, claim it. I might even just give you a small surprise package.

So my word for 2025 is UFOs.  Should I keep a record of my finished and rehoused UFOs? I could even have a new UFO page.

Let's get started.....

Clocks Changed to GMT this weekend

The clocks changed this weekend to GMT. We gain an extra hour as the clocks move back an hour.

The days get shorter and the nights longer until Winter Solstice in December.  I do not like this time of year. I hate the nights drawing in as well as having to close the curtains and switch on the lights in the late afternoons. I seem to hibernate until Winter Solstice. To keep me for hibernation and procrastinating, I plan to finish as any UFOs as possible.

Between Christmas and New Year every year I make a list of all the UFOs I plan to finish the following year. It is safe to say I am never successful. But I keep planning every year. So before the New Year starts, why not plan in October to get started early and hopefully I will success this time.

Should I keep a record here? I think I will as it will keep me motivate and focus to get things done.

See you again soon.....

Charm Square Quilt - another UFO!

I started this quilt many years ago as teaching aid to teach beginner quilters a new simple block. This block is called Half Square triangle or HST for short!

Plus you can create many different layouts quilt designs using a HSTs.

Simple quilting with parallel lines in white cotton thread on the white fabric. Just needs binding.

What is on your sewing table?

What is on your sewing table this bank holiday weekend?

I am hand stitiching a project just for me.  I have made this project many times as a gift for others but never one for myself.

I love making this item.  What is it? Come back over the bank holiday and I may show you more.
Enjoy the bank holiday.

Some Kind of Wonderful

This year's Stitch-A-Long has finished. I am still working on my Some Kind of wonderful quilt, which was last year's Stitch-A-Long.

I have not worked much on my SKoW quilt this year due to my family and work commitments. I have decided that this quilt will be the project that I will try and complete over the holidays.  I would really like to take part in 2014 Stitch-A-Long.

Cyprus Star

I have decided to show you some of my early, very early pieces of work.  I made this wall hanging when I lived on the mediterranean  island of Cyprus in the late nineties.
I made two Cyprus Star but I only finished this wall hanging.  Why?  The other star has a brown background fabric and I do not enjoy working with brown fabric.  I am going to add a picture of this other star when I remember where it is.  And add it to the UFO's that need to be finished in 2013!!!
I will try and blog about other early pieces of work next week.

Floral Bull's Eye

Several years ago I wrote about my floral bull's eye top.  I took part in a bull's eye block swap with some friends within a yahoo group called  Fab Lovers Swap
I also wrote a few days ago about how long it took me to complete my log cabin quilt that I started in 2007.  Since I swap the floral bull's eye blocks in 2006 and pieced the top in 2008, I feel it is time to layer and finish the project this year.

Now I better sign off so I can spend time on the sewing machine quilting this quilt top.

Charity Bags

I was given four precut squares and four rectangles last summer by my local quilting group. The idea was to make them up into quick bags to sale at our exhibition. I forgot to make them into bags. I found the fabric rolled up in my UFO box over the recent holidays. I have french seamed the main bag and finished the bags this past weekend. They will be sold to raise funds for the charity chosen at next week's local quilting group AGM. All offers will be considered!

Finished Project

I finished this bag over the weekend, having started it in 2009 as a Christmas present! I am going to put into my present box. I have a special box in which I keep hand made and shop bought presents for birthdays or Christmas. When I started this project, it was for a special family member. I am going to give it to that person for Christmas this year.

Bulleye Blocks

During the autumn of 2006, I participated in a bulleye block swap with Nancy and Vicki. This was part of a bigger swap with the yahoo group called Fab Lover Swap. I finished my top today. Now I have to layer and quilt it!! That could take another eighteen months. So watch this space in a few years time to see the finished quilt.
