Table Topper

I made this table runner for my mother many years ago using fabric I have purchased in Cyprus.

It is a simple and easy design. Very quick to make. I have made many table runners using this method. I think I will make another but this time photographing as I go so I can write up instructions.

This table topper is still being used today on my mother's coffee table. It is always a pleasure to see the items I make for family still be treasured and used as intended.

Scrunchies Golore

Everyone loves scrunchies!  A good scrunchie simply make my messy hair look good without any effort. I wear a scrunchie every day.
I have been enjoying sewing lots of scrunchies lately.  A lot of people think scrunchies are coming back into fashion.
I do know that they have always been popular and never been away.  I sell ready made scrunchies on my Etsy shop and they sell well.
Scrunchies take about thirty minutes to make.  Bon Couture Designs have paper or PDF patterns for scrunchies and headbands for sale.

Pattern Hack

I really enjoy making a flat zipper case.  I have made a lot over the year to sell at craft fairs.
So it was one of the first patterns written for Bon Couture Designs.  At Bon Couture Designs, we have decided that we need to make some new samples for our social media platforms.
I made this smaller zipper case to keep all my drawing pens safe when I am out and about and to take away to France in the summer.  I love to do quick sketches of places, floral and beach inspirational things when I am on holiday.  It is a keepsake memory book.
I saw something similar to this 'pattern hack' on Instagram.  It was a ten minute make.  I will be making some more as I think they would make a lovely gift combined with a note book/diary.

OPAM February

I am on a roll with the 'end of season' or gift box thingy.  See my last OPAM post. This purse key fob is ideal if only want to carry a key and a few coins on a trip to the shops, on the school run or dog walking.
There are few pattern tutorial for these project on the internet. Another great sash busting projects.

I have started another sewing project that I have again seen on Instagram.  I am still tweaking with the measurements.  When I have finished I will post about it...

OPAM January 2020

I really enjoyed getting started on this year seasonal gift projects.  I am planning to make at least one item for the 'end of year season'.  For some crafters it is tooooooo early to mention the word Christmas.
Not me, I am getting an early start with this Santa Wine Bottle Topper.  These are very popular on Instagram.
Everyone needs a key fob.  It is a great way to using up all my scraps. I will probably make a whole bunch off these key fobs for my Etsy shop and well as for my gift box.  It is always handy to have a few items made in the gift box for unexpected birthday or celebrations.

I have already started cutting out February's seasonal gift.  See you next month....

Travel Tissue Cover

I have made hundreds of travel tissue cover over the years. They are easy and quick to make plus they sell well at craft fairs. These are what I call 'pocket change' sales.
I have been playing with a new design for the tissue cover. Again this new cover is a quick and very easy to stitch.

I am gong to tweak the measurements to decrease the aperture a bit. Other than a bit of tweaking, I am happy with the new cover.

Gifts

I purchased this PVC fabric some time ago with the intention of making several of nieces some bags. It was a discontinued fabric at Dunelm Mill shop. As it is a Disney license fabric I cannot make items to sell on my Etsy shop. When I purchased the fabric, I thought my young nieces would like it as it is 'Frozen Princess'.  All my nieces are princess.
PVC can be difficult to machine stitch without the correct foot.  I use a teflon foot.  They are not a standard foot that usually come with your machine.  But it well worth investing in a teflon foot.  I use it to stitch not only PVC but also faux leather.  Remember to also increase your stitch length and insert a larger size needle.  I refer to use a 90/14 universal needle.
These two shopper bags were made for my youngest twin girls nieces. I am making bags for the other girls.
The metre of fabric cost £4 and will be able to make about six bags. The shopper bags are the largest bags.  I will upload photos of the other bags when I have finished them.

Christmas Gift

I designed this Christmas gift for a auntie.  I try every year to make this relative a gift as I know she likes the personal touch.
I have an ever increasing fabric stash.  My favourite fabrics, which happens to be most of my stash, is so precious I plan only to use them for special projects.
This is the silly reason my fabric stash is increasing in size!
I also took the opportunity to write up instructions for this design as a pdf pattern as well as using for teaching workshops
I am delighted to say this gift has been a hit with the receiver.
I machine quilted using a gold metallic thread. I used a top stitching needle to stop the metallic thread breaking whilst quilting. The other trick is to reduce the speed on the sewing machine.
The table runner is a hexagon shape so I used a single fold binding. Standard quilt binding is too bulky for this pattern,

This is a very easy and quick pattern. I will tweak the instructions a little and then let you know where to purchase it.

Another Christmas Gift

I am busying trying to get everything stitched and posted ready for Santa to deliver on the big day.

This is a pattern that you can cut and sew within a hour.
This is a single bottle bag. This is a pattern I designed for our Bon Couture Design Etsy shop. The pattern is for a double bottle bag. I have altered the size.
I love making gifts for family and friends. I spend a lot of time choosing patterns and fabrics especially for each person.  I often start planning in the spring but usually never start stitching until a week before the big day.

I need to be more organise in 2020 as we have a big family event happening in September.  So I plan to start in January.....

New Year and New Bag

We had a wonderful time in Brittany over Christmas. Now a new year and new beginnings.
I missed my sewing machine whilst away so it is lovely to get back to using it.
I purchase this sewing notion fabric at the Autumn Malvern Quilt Show and only just got around to using it.
It is a very large print.  It stitched like a dream.
Now I have to decided whether to keep it or list it on my Esty Shop.
I will let you know what I decide to do with this pretty little bag.

Christmas Gifts

I made two table runners for Christmas gifts.
The first table runner was made with Moda fabrics, machine pieced and quilted with metallic thread.  This is the third time I have used this easy design.  It one of those designs that I use as my 'go to' patterns when I need a quick present.
The second table runner was made using the 'quilt as you go' method.  The fabrics are modern Christmas fabrics.  This runner is another very quick and easy pattern.
This runner could be made wider by adding borders.  This could be used as a bed runner as well as a table runner by changing the fabrics.
I am planning to made more table runners this year as I really enjoyed these easy designs.

Another Workshop Sample

I made this cushion as a sample for a Redwork workshop I was asked to teach in the Plymouth recently.
I have many samples I have made for several workshops, all of which I love.  I have listed this cushion on my Etsy shop as I have several of this example.

My Workshop Samples

I made this cushion as a sample for a workshop some time ago. I really love this cushion.
But I made a lot of samples using this pattern.  So I am going to list this cushion for sale on my Etsy shop.
I used a Moda Charm pack for make this cushion and several metres of white/white tone fabric.
It is machine quilted using Rayon thread.  I loved teaching this workshop.

What is on your sewing table?

What is on your sewing table this bank holiday weekend?

I am hand stitiching a project just for me.  I have made this project many times as a gift for others but never one for myself.

I love making this item.  What is it? Come back over the bank holiday and I may show you more.
Enjoy the bank holiday.

Bendy Bags

I have been making 'Bendy Bags'.  They are so much fun to make and quick too.
There is a little waste with this bag.  I am designing a pattern to make another bag using this left over waste material.

Bendy bags are very popular at the moment.  There is lots of information about them on the internet.  be warned they are very addicted.

I will posted about the 'Left Over' bag soon.

More Bags

When I have some spare time I cut out fabric for future projects and keep all the pieces in boxes until I am ready to stitch or machine.
As I now have time off recovering from recent surgery,  I have spent ten minutes most days doing a little cutting out of bags to sell on my Etsy shop.
I can only sit at the sewing machines for a few minutes every day due to the nature of my surgery. These bags are now complete and ready to sell.
Two bags are made of oil cloth and one linen fabric with waterproof white lining fabric.  They are 7.5 inches long, 4 inches wide and 4 inches high.

A Gift

I have made my dear friend Sue a fancy french sewing/jewellery roll.
I used cream linen for the main fabric and polka dot linen for the pockets.
I used perle thread in a matching red colour to quilt hearts on the front on the roll.
The ribbon is hand stitched using silk thread.  This sewing roll is a Mandy Shaw design from her 'Quilt Yourself Gorgeous' book.
