Plym's 2014 Jar

At the Plym Piecemaker's Christmas party in December each member was given a present.

This is our new year project.

Start 2014 with an empty jar, every time..

Something good happens..
Learn something new..
Finish a project..
Something that to make you smile..

Write it on a piece of paper, and put in jar.
On December 31st 2014, open jar and read all the little remarks and feel proud of what you've achieved throughout the year.

I am changing the rules as I always do!!
Finish a project..
Tiny size 1p - 2p
Small size5p - 20p
Meduim size 50p
Large size £1
Extra large £2
These are the coins I will be putting into my jar every time a finish a project. Then at the end of the year I will be able to treat myself to a special quilting gift!!!!

Fifty Shades of .....Blue

A challenge was set at the AGM of Plym Piecemakers in January this year.  To make any items using 'Fifty Shades of ...' as the theme.
As I have a large stash of hand dyed blue fabric and needed a new long wall hanging for my hallway, I thought it would be a good challenge to partake in.
We were told by the chairman that we had until the April's meeting to complete this challenge. I did complete the top and manage to layer the quilt up ready for quilting but that is all.
April's meeting took place last night.  Wow so many members took part in this challenge.  There were dolls, bags, table runners and place mats as well as lots of wall hangings.  But I forgot to take my camera!  So all I can show you is my challenge piece.

Log Cabin Workshop

This quilt was started at a workshop in 2005.  The tutor requested that the students cut all the strip for the quilt before the workshop day.  The original plan was to complete all the quilt-as-you-go blocks on the day and take home to join the blocks into a quilt in our own time.
I completed three blocks and decided that I did not like the method taught at the workshop.  As the strips were already cut and I love the Log Cabin quilts, I continue making the quilt with the traditional piecing.   I finished piecing the top very quickly. I layered the top and started to quilt it with rayon threads in a wavy design.  It remained unfinished for the next seven years.  Not unloved as it was thrown over the sofa and in constant use. Last year, the Cast Off Girls thought I should finish it so I could enter the quilt into the local quilt group show.
There were other quilts in the local quilt show that have taken much longer to complete than my Log Cabin quilt.  I encourage you all to get out that long overdue project and complete it this year.

Getting ready for Christmas!!!

I know that you will think I am crazy as it is still only May.  I was asked by another member of the LQG to provide Christmas projects now as it gives members a chance to complete projects before the mayhem of the season begins!!
So we are starting with a simple project.  Six members have already started!!  I am off now to get next month's project finished!!
