Round Robins

I have now finished my second row for Plym Piecemaker's Round Robin. I completed two rows for this project. The main row is paper pieced sailing boats and the second is a simple 6 inch pieced blocks using theme fabrics. The theme for this quilt is 'Seaside'. I gave the owner back her bag at last night's meeting.
Now onto the third Round Robin.....

Christmas Stars

Every year Quay Quilters in Kingsbridge Devon are asked to decorate a Christmas tree at the Methodist Church. This year's theme is 'The First Christmas'. These are the stars that I made for the tree, using the raw edge applique technique. They only took an evening to complete.

Remembrance Sunday

Every year on Remembrance Sunday, my family and I attend the service on the Hoe in Plymouth Devon. The Royal Navy War Memorial was surrounded by hundreds of people that had come to pay their respects.
The light house on the Hoe is called Smeaton's Tower.

Round Robins

I was voted in as the Coordinator or some call it Chairman of Plym Piecemakers in January 2009. As many members have never participated in a round robin, I organised a Row by Row Round Robin for Plym Piecemakers in Plymouth (Devon UK).
There are four groups, with six quilters in each group, taking part. I'm in the team called Patsy's Pride. We were meant to swap our bags at this week's meeting. All the quilters were excited as they were going to get their own bags back. But I have had a sewing nightmare. I got stuck on the second round. I could not think of what to do for theme of countryside without animals. I passed the bag on to the next member and requested that it should be given back to me later in the project.
I now have all the bags but mine in my sewing room. Each one waiting to receive a row. And each owner waiting to receive their bags home. I have taken part in many round robins and this is the first time that I have struggle to complete on time.
The photo is to prove that I have completed one round and only three to go!!! Who's round is it?
Wait and see.....

Yahoo Group

On the yahoo group for Daisychain Quilters, we are having a bag challenge. I am uploading free patterns, available for only one month. Members have to make that bag and upload a photo to receive the following month's pattern.
These bags were made by Sue. As you can see by the photos, Sue loved the pattern so much she has made three bags. Well done Sue.

If you would like to join in with the fun, click on the link to the Daisychain Quilters Yahoo Group. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/daisychainquilters/

Diana 's Bag

Have I ever told you that I am co-ordinator for Plym Piecemakers? Well, every year we have a Summer Garden Party. The last two years Diana has hosted the summer event. As this is my first year as co-ordinator, it is my duty to make the host's gift. So what could I make as a gift? If you are a regular reader of my blog, you will know that I love making bags. This is the bag that I made as a gift using the strip quilt as you go method. I will add a tutorial to make this bag on this blog in this next few weeks. So please come back and visit again soon.

Courgette Gratin

I love to grow and eat courgettes but my family hate them. I would like to share a recipe for one for those of my fellow quilters that love courgettes too.

1 whole small or half a large courgette- peeled and thinly sliced

1 large or several small tomatoes - thinly sliced

1 slice of wholemeal bread - fine breadcrumbs

2oz of goat cheese

olive oil

1) Preheat the oven to gas mark 5/6.

2) Toss the courgette slices in two tablespoons of olive oil.

3) Arrange the courgettes and tomato slices in a ovenproof dish.

4) Season with salt and pepper.

5) Cover with wholemeal breadcrumbs.

6) Crumble the goat cheese on top of breadcrumbs.

7) Drizzle with two more tablespoons of olive oil.

8) Bake in the oven for about thirty minutes or until the vegetables are soft.

Other vegetables such as peppers, leeks, onions or carrots can be added to the ingredients. If you do not like or want goat cheese replace with another type of cheese.

Please leave me a comment if you have tried this recipe. Thank you, Deborah

Bags Bags and More Bags

I demonstrated bag construction at Plym Piecemakers on Tuesday night. So I had to make some new bags that the ladies had not seen before! So now I got two new bags and three half made, which I used as my 'Blue Peter' demos.
Bag instructions will be posted on the yahoo group site in the next few weeks.
